    Oceano Dunes State Recreational Area

    Formed by winds and ocean waves, the Oceano Dunes Recreation Area is one of the few dune areas that welcomes swimming, hiking, surfing, limited clamming and off-highway driving. Vehicles are limited to certain areas of the dunes, one mile south of the beach from Pier Ave. Camping facilities are also found in the area.

    The 17-Mile Drive began in the 1880's as an excursion route for horse-drawn carriages and touring cars for guests of the Hotel Del Monte. The famous stretch of road has the same enchantment for those who travel it today.     Pismo Beach Pier
    The pier was originally built in 1881 by a group of San Francisco business men, and was primarily used as a shipping point for south county agriculture. After sustaining major damage from storms in 1983, the current pier was rebuilt in 1924 and boasts 1,370 feet of boardwalk as well as several cantilevered fishing decks. Many fishing and clamming opportunities are available from the pier. Restrooms and free parking are available at the foot of the pier as well fish-cleaning stations, benches, lights, bait (primarily frozen) and tackle.

    Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area
    Hungry Valley is a huge off-roading area utilized by motorcylces, four-wheel drive and all-terrain vehicles. About 130 miles of marked trails are available as well as an off-route area. All riders must wear appropriate equipment.

    San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo

    San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo is a Catholic mission that was founded in the late 18th century. It was originally constructed in Monterey, and was relocated to Carmel. It was the second of the 21 missions built in Alta California. Visitors are able to look through various aspects of the mission, including the burial places of Padres Junipero Serra, Juan Crespi and Fermin Lasuen, who were among the men who founded the mission. It is widely considered to be among the most beautiful missions in the area, and it is a popular tourist attraction.
